Solar, home, grid, and battery power explained
Power describes what the system is doing now; energy describes how much accumulated over time. MiBa Solar uses named directions so grid import/export and battery charge/discharge remain understandable without relying on positive or negative signs.
Power and energy are different
- Power (W or kW)
- An instantaneous rate. A 3 kW solar reading describes production around that source timestamp, not 3 kWh already produced.
- Energy (Wh, kWh, or MWh)
- An amount accumulated over a period. A daily 12 kWh generation total covers the station-local day.
- State of charge (SOC, %)
- The battery's reported charge level. It is a percentage, not a power or energy unit.
Do not sum power samples as energy
Energy depends on both power and elapsed time. MiBa Solar uses Deye's compatible energy totals rather than adding instantaneous power readings without accounting for their intervals.
Read each direction
- Solar production
- Power currently produced by the PV system.
- Home consumption / load
- Power currently used by the loads represented by the Deye installation and its meters.
- Grid import
- Power flowing from the utility grid into the system.
- Grid export
- Power flowing from the system to the utility grid.
- Battery charging
- Power flowing into the battery.
- Battery discharging
- Power flowing out of the battery to supply the system.
Why signs can differ between interfaces
Deye payloads and inverter displays may use signed net values or separate named direction values, and sign conventions can differ by field. MiBa Solar normalizes those readings into explicit names. Historical battery discharge is shown below zero in the power chart, while the Battery status card also says Charging or Discharging in text.
Named Deye direction fields remain authoritative when present. A signed net grid or battery reading fills a missing direction only under the application's validated normalization rules. An explicit zero remains a real reading; a missing reading remains unavailable.
Compare readings correctly
- Use the same source timestamp when comparing MiBa Solar with Deye Cloud.
- Compare W with W or kW with kW after conversion, and compare kWh totals over the same station-local dates.
- Allow for different refresh times. Two correct pages can show different current values if their source timestamps differ.
- Check whether a value is measured, derived, stale, partial, or unsupported before drawing a conclusion.
